Now you can send money abroad on Facebook
In the not-so-distant past, sending money abroad, whether to a family member living in another country or to employees spread out internationally, could be expensive. And there were few options to choose from, besides using one’s bank or a traditional wire service.
Now, people can send money to friends and family across borders via Facebook Messenger for just 1% or less of the total amount of the transaction for most countries, the money transfer company TransferWise announced this week.
It is available as a “bot,” or an automated system that Facebook users can directly message. It then responds with commands including “Send some money” and “Exchange rate alerts.” It requires those sending or receiving money to have TransferWise accounts, but prompts those who don’t to create a log-in through Messenger.
